"Each man has inside him a basic decency and goodness. If he listens to it and acts on it , he is giving a great deal of what it is the world needs most. A human being is part of a whole, called by us the ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

GLOBAL VISION

At the United Nations Earth Summit in 1992, the world's governments agreed on the need to develop a sustainable form of civilisation that conserves the Earth's resources for future generations. Although some progress has been made since then, this falls far short what is needed to guarantee success. To put it simply, the development of a sustainable civilisation requires a level of action and co-operation without precedent in history, and this, in turn, requires widespread prior agreement on the goal. For when people share a common goal, their natural tendency is to co-operate in realising it.

Global Vision's purpose is to position the concept of sustainability as a global goal. Humankind still behaves as if saving the planet were a sacrifice we can't afford. But in reality, sustainability is no sacrifice: it is the greatest historical opportunity of all time! Our various media products are designed to communicate this understanding by focusing on the magnitude of untapped economic, environmental, and social benefits which sustainability can bring for everyone. The Global Vision Project is thus a collaborative attempt to articulate a positive vision of the future that can be meaningful to all of Humankind, to communicate this vision in symbolic forms through TV, cinema, CD-ROMs, and the Net, and to encourage individuals and organisations around the world to participate in its unfolding. Sustainability is the best investment!

In a recent science journal it said if all humans disappeared in the next moment it would only take Mother Earth six months to heal all the pollution in our environment.

Let's co-create a better reality, based on moral, balanced, righteous and natural principles - allowing for equal opportunity of expression - and harmony with self, others and the environment.

Nobody is excluded!

Everybody is willing to understand themselves
as well as understanding others

You can participate with this amazing opportunity for self growth / transformation, service to others and to helping our environment.

We can have fun together either through this website or through other means:

Ways to make a real difference to Self & Others:

Know & Love Thyself

To thyself be True!

I am not saying 'don't help others at all until you are self realised' but be aware of your intentions and motivations.

- have compassion, understanding for whoever crosses your path. Also be careful of being too helpful - some take advantage

Indeed by being involved with a project will definitely help you on your own path - of self realisation, individuation, Love and awareness.

It is through relationships and sharing with others that we learn more about ourselves!

Ideally, like myself, you will want to be involved for several reasons -

eg. you help self as well as simultaneously helping others by researching a topic that is close to your heart / home at the moment - sharing this information is beneficial for all!

.....But even then you must do it as you were told, without ahamkara, that is without the sense 'I am the doer', but feeling, 'I am the Lord's tool'. Similarly one must not be conceited and think,' I am helping a man below me. He needs help. I am in a position to help. I am superior and he is inferior.' You must help the man as a means of worshipping God in that man. All such service too is for you the Self, not for anybody else. You are not helping anybody else but yourself

Tlil you reach the state of jnana and thus wake out of maya, you must do social service by relieving sufferings whenever you see it

What is the best way to work for world peace?

A. What is the world? What is peace and who is the worker? The world is not in your sleep and forms a projection of your mind in your jagrat [waking state]. It is therefore an idea nothing else. Peace is the absence of disturbance. The disturbance is due to the arising thoughts in the individual, which is only the ego rising up from pure consciousness.

To bring about peace means to be free from thoughts and to abide in pure consciousness. If one remains at peace onself, there is only peace everywhere..

ETHICS SHOULD GROW OUT OF COMMON SENSE

DALAI LAMA, Svenska Dagbladet, Sweden, February 27, 2000

According the Dalai Lama's definition, this means that good ethics consists in striving for your own physical and mental happiness without limiting the possibilities of any other human being(or, in Buddhist perspective, sentient being) to do the same.

But to do so, one must understand what gives lasting happiness to a human being, and also develop one's ability to enter into other people's situations and to assess one's own actions in relation to the consequences for other people. You must, writes the Dalai Lama, think, think, think.

The fact that man is happier when his fundamental needs are satisfied, writes the Dalai Lama, is beyond all doubt. But equally obvious is the fact that material resources exceeding this basic level do not automatically increase the satisfaction. It almost seems, writes he, to be the other way around.

In order to achieve a new attitude and thus be able to lead an ethically good life, one should, according to the Dalai Lama, realize some fundamental facts as well as practise what the Tibetans term "lo" (consciousness, feeling, and emotions) and "kun-long" (motivation).

Firstly, it is a matter of realizing the complexity of life and the interdependence of everything. Forget all simple answers, exhorts the Dalai Lama. In human relations there is nothing like black and white. Life is infinitely complex. The only possible approach is humbleness. Also, do not believe that you are a satellite with definite borders. An arm is not a human being, neither is the brain or the heart. Nothing of what man is, defines him. The same applies to man's position in society.

What is a mother without children, a boss without employees, a rich man without the poor. Man, as well as everything else existing, is only in relation to something else. Actually, writes the Dalai Lama, nothing exists but relations from this way of looking upon reality, one can then try to reduce one's angry, automatic defense reactions. If everything is connected and complex, it is not as easy to get angry with the merest trifle. In the same way it is easier to feel compassion and love towards those around you when seeing how similar we all are, and how much we depend on each other. Here, religions can also be of use, says the Dalai Lama. For thousands of years they have developed techniques with the purpose of increasing compassion in man.

The Future of Humanity - Video

THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY is a dialogue between Krishnamurti and David Bohm which took place in Brockwood Park, England in 1983. Starting with the questions - Are psychologists really concerned with the future of man? Are they concerned with the human being conforming to the present society, or going beyond that? - the conversation embarks on the incredible journey of the unconditioned mind and asks if the consciousness of mankind can be changed through time.

KRISHNAMURTI: We are saying, let's be clear, that the evolution of consciousness is a fallacy... There is no psychological evolution, or the evolution of the psyche.
DAVID BOHM: Yes, and since the future of mankind depends on the psyche, it seems then that the future of mankind is not going to be determined through actions in time.
KRISHNAMURTI: Mind is universal, not polluted by thought. You only have your brain, which is conditioned. You can't say "It's my mind" ... What lies beyond thought when thought is silent is attention. Attention is without activity of thought ...Undirected attention of the mind contacts the brain as long as the brain is silent. Attention can only "be" when self is "not."
DAVID BOHM: But those cells that are conditioned, whatever they may be, evidently dominate consciousness now, right?
KRISHNAMURTI: Yes. Can those cells be changed? We are saying that they can through insight - insight being "out of time."
DAVID BOHM: This insight will be through the action of the mind, intelligence, and attention. KRISHNAMURTI: Where there is that insight, intelligence wipes away suffering.
DAVID BOHM: ... there is contact from mind to matter which removes the whole physical chemical structure which keeps us going on with suffering.
KRISHNAMURTI: That's right. In that ending, there is a mutation in the brain cells.
DAVID BOHM: That mutation just wipes out the whole structure that makes you suffer... KRISHNAMURTI: Matter is limited, thought is limited.
DAVID BOHM: But we are saying that "the pure energy of mind is able to reach into the limited energy of man."
KRISHNAMURTI: Yes, that's right and change the limitation.

UNITED TRADITIONS

Although some progress has been made since then, this falls far short what is needed to guarantee success. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/politicsandspiritnetwork/ -The 'Politics and Spirit Network' is a forum to develop the growing movement to unite visionary new political *and* spiritual thinking - through discussion, debate, brainstorming ideas and projects, networking and publicising events. Its launch was inspired by US visionary Rabbi Michael Lerner's packed and ground-breaking London lecture in Oct 2001 on 'The Globalisation of Capital vs the Globalisation of Spirit - a new strategy for radical social transformation', which was introduced by Matthew Taylor, head of leading think-tank IPPR and advisor to Tony Blair. (His recent research on the family, going well beyond Blairism, looks at how modern consumer capitalism undermines the unselfish care and commitment needed for families, and society, to thrive.) Lerner's inspiring message is that we can create a real alternative to society's ethos of selfishness, materialism and cynicism and transform the bottom line of politics. He recently launched the Tikkun Community (e-mail RabbiLerner@tikkun.org; see also www.tikkun.org, his magazine). This wider framework is certainly not only for the spiritual or religious, it's equally open to humanists. A different approach to these issues - still mostly a suggestive framework - is Ken Wilber's 'Integral Politics' (wilber.shambhala.com; www.worldofkenwilber.com). All talk about meaning and purpose, values, spirituality - even community - need not be left in the hands of - sometimes ethnocentric - conservatives: remember Martin Luther King Jnr. We should champion our values of global tolerance and compassion, social justice, ecological sanity and world peace, avoiding the postmodern dead-end where all values are equal, which short-circuits inner development. Narrow, materialistic strategies are unlikely to inspire the solidarity needed for an unstoppable new movement combining outer and inner change: be realistic, demand the impossible! *Please limit use of the list as a soapbox for single-issue campaigns etc. matthewkalman@yahoo.com

Tibet Environmental Watch www.tew.org

Welcome to the Tibet Environmental Watch (TEW) site. Our focus is to
bring awareness to the publication TIBET: Enduring Spirit, Exploited
Land, which describes the relationship of Tibetan nomads and farmers with
the environment, and to publish related environmental news on the
region. This site will be used to update important Tibetan environmental
information as new data becomes available and to build upon the concept
of a "Zone of Peace" as presented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

TIBET ENVIRONMENT WATCH NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Tibet Environmental Watch www.tew.org is a web site focusing on
environmental issues in Tibet and the Tibetan borderlands. Its staff is
looking for volunteers to enhance its research capabilities and
significantly expand its content, and help to maintain the web site.

There are a variety of ways students may become involved in
contributing
to the work of www.tew.org Through phone and email discussions, an
agreement can be made to research a specific topic, which then can be
prepared for web publishing. (This could be done in connection with a
term paper). For students with more time available under the guidance
of
the staff, more responsibility can be taken for a broader coverage of
such areas as listed below. The time commitment can be flexible,
depending upon interest and availability.

Topics for research and publishing:

· Endangered species- extended taxonomies
· Appropriate Technology for high mountain desert climates
· Environmental impact of existing and planned dams
· National Parks, their goals and operations
· Impact of already established development programs
· Interview with recent visitors to, or refugees from Tibet
· Literature research on assigned topics
· Development of the Dalai Lamas' concept of a "ZONE OF PEACE"
· Technical assistance in maintaining and adding to sites content.

The Foundation for Ethics & Meaning - The Foundation's activities and research seek to challenge the present economic and cultural dominance of market driven hyper-consumption, and the worship of material wealth, power and celebrity, the political, spiritual and ethical apathy, and the ecological and human damage this worldview produces. Instead we work to encourage a holistic and community spirit of caring that promotes tolerance, justice, and reconciliation. Moving beyond outdated Left/liberal and Right/conservative paradigms, we work with numerous organizations and the public to develop a unified language that can offer both a sophisticated yet accessible critique of the current bottom line, and a coherent program for its transformation. http://meaning.org/
