Magnet Therapy
Introduction
Magnotherapy (magnet therapy) has been used to improve health for thousands of years in the Far East and other areas of the world for thousands of years
Magnet therapy is essentially a natural therapy, free from complex or intricate procedures involved in acupressure, acupuncture, homeopathhy, hypnosis or elaborate diets.]
No medicine is taken orally or injected into the body.
Magnetic Therapy utilizes the natural energies of magnetism that are important to human beings' existence and overall health. Human beings possess complex bio-electromagnetic systems, while all electro-systems also contain magnetic fields. A magnetic field provides a natural way to assist the body as it passes through all tissues and cells. Magnetism helps to bring a normal charge back to each body cell by increasing cellular oxygen and restoring pH balance. The cells then become well, and this helps restore the natural balance of the body which then promotes the healing to take place.
During the last twelve months Magnetic Therapy has become very popular but magnets have been used for thousands of years with the earliest record dating back to 800 BC. Physicians in ancient Greece, Egypt, India and China described and practised magnetic therapy and it was mentioned in the writings of Homer, Plato and Aristotle.
Magnetism is necessary for healthy living, but it is being reduced naturally, as well as through pollution, so we need to bolster our magnetic charge. It is also known that magnetism affects the fluids in the body by increasing circulation and enabling more effective distribution of food, energy and oxygen around the body, helping to eliminate toxins far more efficiently. The magnetic field helps to rotate the blood cells around the body which allows them to pick up and release food, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones and other fluids and gases more effectively around the body.
A magnet is the only instrument used. It is not magic. It does not heal anything, rather it stimulates the body to heal itself. The magnetic field produced by permanent magnet placed across the body harmlessly penetrates the skin, tissue and bones.
Magnets help to increase the circulation enabling the blood stream to transport oxygen, nutrients and cells around the body. The blood stream helps dispose the body of toxins, naturally transporting them to the kidneys so that they may be flushed out. If the circulation is right, the body is able to heal itself.

What is the great attraction?
The beneficial and therapeutic aspects of magnets have been recognised and recorded in history for many thousands of years. The healing properties of magnets are mentioned in the earliest known medical book, the so called 'Yellow Emperor's Book of Internal Medicine'. A medical reference book over 4000 years old.
| The Hindu teachings in 'The Vedas' 2000 BC also refer to healing with lodestones. While Plato (420 - 347 BC) wrote about the time when Magnes, a Greek shepherd living near Mount Ida, found that his iron staff was being pulled towards a large rock, he had to exert all his strength to pull them apart. The rock was named the Magnet Stone, and wishing to make use of this amazing force he inserted pieces of it inside his sandals to enable him to cover longer distances without feeling tired. | ![]() |
Wealthy Egyptians wore magnets to prevent ageing and Cleopatra wore them on her forehead to maintain her beauty. In fact most of the ancient cultures Greek, Egyptian, Chinese, Indian, Arab and Hebrew knew about the beneficial aspects of magnets and employed them as amulets to safeguard good health and prevent ageing. |
Some examples of magnets in history are 300 BC Aristotle talked about the therapeutic properties of the magnet. 100 AD Pliny spoke of magnets being used for the eyes, bladder, female problems and wound healing. 300 AD Galen used magnets for constipation and pain. 400 AD Marcel applied magnets to headaches. 600 AD Alexander of Troiles used magnets on painful joints. 1734 Franz Anton Mesmer played a major part in the utilisation of magnets for healing purposes. 1777 Abbe Le Noble (canon of Verneuil sur Seine) made a study of the applications of magnets to diseases. He sent a dissertation of his work to the Society Royale de Medicine, who appointed two experts Audrey and Thouret to verify efficacy of the magnet in use on diseases. The task was performed with scrupulous attention, and the report findings were so favourable to this new-found therapeutic method that their only concern was the risk of making it a panacea. They concluded that the magnet will one day play an essential part in medicine as it does in physics.
1940s Research and widespread use of magnets by Russian Doctors on injuries during the war, as magnets were cheap and readily available and excellent results were obtained. 1950s Research worldwide showing the benefits of magnotherapy with astonishing results and as such now over 50,000,000 people benefit. Natural magnets (lodestones) are composed of ferromagnetic minerals, contained in cooled volcanic rocks impregnated with the Earth's magnetic field at the time they were formed. Natural magnetic forces have fascinated mankind, and the idea of the health and anti-ageing effects are not so unfounded as first might be thought. They are based on the intuition and observation of the effects of magnetic fields on the body throughout the ages. Natural magnets i.e. lodestones are no longer used as more powerful magnets are now available.
But how does magnetism in the human body work?
It is known that magnetism affects the fluids in the body (i.e. blood and lymph) by increasing the circulation and enabling more effective distribution of food, energy and oxygen around the body helping to eliminate toxins far more efficiently. This is illustrated by the effect of a magnetic field on cells circulating around the body. This rotation of cells allows them to pick up and release food, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones and other fluids and gases more effectively around the body.
Scientists have found that when exposed to magnetism many chemical and physical properties of water change, that the sedimentation rate of a fluid (blood is a fluid) changes. A weak electric current is generated when a magnet touches the human body, increasing the number of ions in the blood, which has a beneficial effect on the body as a whole. The pH balance of the body and its fluids (often reduced or out of balance when a person is ill) can be altered and stabilised by the application of magnets and/or the taking of magnetised water.
By magnetising water its composition is altered to facilitate easier absorption and improve the beneficial properties. It is used as a therapy in its own right, or in addition to the placement of magnets, or in utilising various magnotherapy treatments.
In brief the beneficial effects of magnets on the human body are as follows:
Haemoglobin movement in the blood vessels increases, enabling food, oxygen and energy to be supplied quicker, helping to remove toxins efficiently and also bringing down the cholesterol levels. This also helps to remove waste products from the vessels walls, and so reducing high blood pressure.
Magnetism regulates the function of nerves, increases hormone release, increases the movement of blood and lymph. It renews and increases the number of cells, strengthens inactive blood and increases the number of the new ones. Hence magnetism generally improves health and brings increased energy. People receiving magnotherapy often feel that they have higher energy levels and don't feel so tired when at work. It also has remarkable therapeutic powers, particularly for certain diseases and ailments (over 200 ailments have been successfully addressed). Magnetic fields raise the body fluid pH to kill unwanted bacteria quickly.
During sleep we replace the billions of cells that we lose daily. The Earth's natural magnetic field creates an environment for this to occur. However, this negative charge has reduced considerably over the last few centuries. Therefore, if we look upon the Earth as a bed we sleep on, we are lucky that it is a negatively charged field. But not so lucky this field strength is diminishing.
Electromagnetic interference and pollution in the form of the steel present in buildings which deflects natural magnetism, or from power lines and electrical devices, all add to our health problems. Power is generated from an alternating current which operates at a frequency of 50-60 cycles per second, which is incompatible with the human body's range which is 2-20 cycles per second. It is this that interferes with the body's internal balance and is now thought to be a contributory factor in the onset of many disorders.
Magnetic or oxygen deficiency results in an organ or system breakdown and is the cause of many of our diseases and disorders. The application of magnetic fields increases oxygenation, increases electrons and creates a field of high energy to restore the body. It is time for the medical profession to take this therapy seriously and to conduct its own impartial studies and move forward for the benefit of the nation's and world's health.
