If you already own a classic BRITA jug that uses the classic cartridges (not the new maxtra ones), the Wellness Carafe cartridge also fit perfectly, however we still recommend the Wellness Carafe Jug as it is made of High Grade BPA free plastic.

The Wellness Carafe is designed to give you a "taste" of Wellness, introducing you to the benefits of our Purified and Enhanced Water at an attractive price. If you want clean, safe and refreshing water in a pitcher design, then the Wellness Carafe is ideal for you. The Wellness Carafe uses a multi-stage filter cartridge to reduce Chlorine, Lead, and other harmful contaminants from your water. Just pour tap water into the top of the Carafe and gravity will do the rest. In a few minutes, the bottom of the Carafe will be full of naturally filtered and enhanced Wellness water.

Here is an affordable, perfect water for your basic everyday needs. The Wellness Carafe is made of BPA free high grade plastic, with a stylish indigo-blue design. It can hold up to 2.3 litres of water to accommodate all the thirst needs of the average sized family.

If you want iced water you can pour a handful of ice in with the tap water or you can put it in the refrigerator. Like all Wellness Filter products, the Carafe’s multi-stage cartridge contains the famous enhancement media for improved hydration, soluble minerals and negative ions. Each Carafe comes with a convenient calendar dial to remind you when to change the cartridge. Each cartridge is designed to filter 150 litres (40 gallons approx) of water.

Taichoseki is a proprietary media used in all Wellness Filters®. On December 15, 1990, the Kitazato Medical School of Public Health in Tokyo, having found that it greatly inhibits the growth of fungus and bacteria, approved Taichoseki mineral stone as a “natural disinfectant”. The Medical School’s studies found that water treated by Taichoseki mineral stone slows down and even stops the growth of fungus and bacteria, including staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, aspergillus niger, myrothecium verrucaria, trichophyton interdigitale, and candida albicans. This mineral also removes iron, cadmium, and many harmful substances in tap water.

Bakuhanseki is a proprietary media used in all Wellness Filters®. On October 15, 1995, the Japanese Government’s Ministry of Health, Drug Approval Division, gave their approval of the bakuhanseki stone as an approved medicine. The stone is approved for medical purposes in powdered form (oral or skin application), dissolved in water, and for use in water filters for bathing and drinking. The Ministry of Health uses Wellness Filter® water in their hospitals and in many of their approved health bathing spas. (Note: Because the Bakuhanseki mineral stone is designated as a medicine, treatments in health spas are covered by Japanese Government medical plans.) The Bakuhan mineral adjusts the water to a stable alkaline pH, increases dissolved oxygen, removes harmful substances and enhances the taste of the water. It will also remove lead, mercury, and chromium from tap water. It imparts trace Angstrom size minerals (silica, potassium, and magnesium).

SPG Sand - Obtained from volcanic rocks, the surface area of this material is 6.16 sq. meters per gram and provides 0.5-micron level filtration. Produces high efficiency filtration, removes parasites and adsorbs trace heavy metals, and yields very pure water.

Granulated Activated Carbon - Made from highest quality coconut shell carbon. Removes chlorine, chlorinated hydrocarbons, organics, volatiles, MTBE, tastes and odors.

Magnet & Magnetite Stone - High flux density (greater than 4,500 gauss) magnetic stone and magnets create magnetic field in filter for magnetic resonance activation of the water. Lowers surface tension, increases solubility and increases absorptivity.

Far-Infrared Ceramic - Proprietary ceramic media made from far infrared emitting stone at 2,200°F. Produces hydroxyl ions and hydrogen ions, which neutralize free radicals. Believed to aid the body in fighting immune disorders, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Wellness Carafe

Questions & Answers

Q. What is the Carafe Jug made of?

A. The Wellness Carafe is made of NAS 30 styrene-methyl methacrylate co polymer. It is covered by the FDA Regulation and is BPA free.

The Filter cartridge is made from poly propylene and is also BPA free.

Q. Is it possible for parasites to form in the cartridge filter if it is not constantly submerged under water?

A. This could be about bacteria rather than parasites. Parasites don’t make sense; they don’t form or colonize. While this could be true about other pitcher filters, the Taicho® stone in our filter makes the water bacteriostatic, which would prevent this colonization from occurring.

Q. Do the cartridges have an expiry or best before date?

A. There is no expiration date with filters when they are dry (i.e. not used).

Q. Will bacteria grow in the filter or jug if i dont keep it in a fridge?

A. The mineral stones in the enhancement stage have a natural bacteriostatic property that helps to inhibit growth of bacteria and fungus in the water. If the filtered water is left standing long enough it can develop bacteria since it has no chlorine in it.

Q. Will any of the benefits diminish if i store the water for a few hours, or do i have to use it straight away once its been filtered?

A. The water can start to lose its properties if it is stored either in an open container for 24 hours or after several days when stored in a sealed container. The best thing to do is use the water as close as possible to the time it has been processed through the Carafe.

Q. Is the Japanese media inside the filters from before or after the recent Nuclear incident?

A. Wellness have confirmed the Japanese media used in these filters was stockpiled well before the nuclear incident in Japan.

Q. What pHvalue will the Wellness Carafe make the water?

A. The pH of the water will vary-there is no specific pH number for the filtered water.

Q. If I boil the water will it destroy the microclustering effect, or the pH or the ''increased wetness" - ie. will boiling the water destroy any of the benefits of the water once filtered?

A. Boiling the water will not usually have any negative effect of the enhanced water from the Carafe.

Recommendations:

* Consumers should drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water. Americans pay an average of two-tenths of a cent per gallon to drink water from the tap. A carbon filter at the tap or in a pitcher costs a manageable $0.31 per gallon (12 times lower than the typical cost of bottled water), and removes many of the contaminants found in public tap water supplies.2 A whole-house carbon filter strips out chemicals not only from drinking water, but also from water used in the shower, clothes washer and dishwasher where they can volatilize into the air for families to breathe in. For an average four-person household, the cost for this system is about $0.25 per person per day.3 A single gallon of bottled water costs 15 times this amount.

EWG's study has revealed that bottled water can contain complex mixtures of industrial chemicals never tested for safety, and may be no cleaner than tap water. Given some bottled water company's failure to adhere to the industry's own purity standards, Americans cannot take the quality of bottled water for granted. Indeed, test results like those presented in this study may give many Americans reason enough to reconsider their habit of purchasing bottled water and turn back to the tap.
