Information on Plastics & Safety

The Wellness H2.O bottle is made of LDPE, which is BPA & Phthalate Free. This material is safe, flexible, and durable, allowing you to replace over 1,000 plastic water bottles that would otherwise be thrown away. What is the Wellness H2.O made of?

The Wellness H2.O bottle is made of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). Widely considered the safest of the flexible plastics, LDPE does not leach Bisphenol-A (BPA) or Phthalates. This material is ideal for producing a squeezable, reusable water bottle that is durable enough for every day use.

Why do we use plastic bottles?

This is a common question, especially considering the recent popularity of steel and aluminum bottles. The difference between the Wellness H2.O bottle and reusable metal bottles is that our product contains a 2 micron carbon filter which effectively reduces Chlorine, Lead, THMs and VOCs. In order to properly filter your water, the bottle requires pressure, and the best source of pressure is a good squeeze.

So if you want to carry all your filtered water from home, a reusable metal bottle is certainly an option. But if you want ready access to pure filtered water on the go, without the waste of disposable bottles, the Wellness H2.O is the bottle for you.

What are Bisphenol-A & Phthalates?

Bisphenol-A (BPA) – A key monomer used in the production of polycarbonate (#7) plastics. An endocrine disruptor or xeno-estrogen. Simulates the action of estrogen when tested in human breast cancer studies. Can leach into food or beverages as container ages or is heated.

Phthalate (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate or DEHP) - pronounced ‘thal-ate’ – A type of plasticizer compound used in some types of PVC. An endocrine disruptor or xeno-estrogen. Early human and animal studies have raised significant concerns about its safety, especially with the developing fetus and in infants.

Instructions during use

Keep Bottle Upright: The Wellness H2.O Bottle is designed to be used while upright with the filter cartridge completely submerged in water. If the bottle is inverted or the cartridge is not submerged (so sports bottle is about one third full) the bottle will not function properly.

Bottle Requires Pressure: The Wellness H2.O Bottle requires a small amount of pressure to push the water through the filter. For optimal flow, squeeze the bottle while drawing on the straw. Note: Bottle may produce a ‘hissing’ sound when in use. This is normal and occurs as the bottle re-inflates.

Q. What is the difference between the New H20 Sports Bottle and the previous Wellness Sports Bottle?

A. The H2.0 and Sports bottles have several differences and several similarities. The prices of the units depend on manufacturing costs, R&D costs, cost for labour and freight.

The filtration for both bottles is relatively the same (please see link below for performance data sheet on the H2.0 bottle). However, the enhancement is quite different. The H2.0 has nearly over twice as much enhancement material then the old Sports bottles, offering an increased beneficial effect. The flow for the H2.0 bottle will be slightly reduced because of the increase in enhancement, but that all depends on how much you squeeze the bottle to force the water through the cartridge.

Q. Is the H20 Bottle environmentally friendly product?

A. The H2.0 bottle has been designed so that it is a “Green” product that offers users the ability to have a reusable bottle that should last a lifetime while also reducing the carbon footprint of not only the manufacturer but also the user. We went to great lengths (and costs) to use recycled and repurposed materials to make up the packaging of the bottle. The bottle itself is a recyclable plastic that doesn’t have any of that harmful leeching effect that many other plastic bottles do. The informational tag and instructions that come with the bottle are printed on a 100% recycled paper, with 0% use of bleach, printed with all natural vegetable oil.

All in all, the H2.0 bottle offers you an environmentally friendly bottle with even better water than before.

* Consumers should drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water. Americans pay an average of two-tenths of a cent per gallon to drink water from the tap. A carbon filter at the tap or in a pitcher costs a manageable $0.31 per gallon (12 times lower than the typical cost of bottled water), and removes many of the contaminants found in public tap water supplies.2 A whole-house carbon filter strips out chemicals not only from drinking water, but also from water used in the shower, clothes washer and dishwasher where they can volatilize into the air for families to breathe in. For an average four-person household, the cost for this system is about $0.25 per person per day.3 A single gallon of bottled water costs 15 times this amount.

EWG's study has revealed that bottled water can contain complex mixtures of industrial chemicals never tested for safety, and may be no cleaner than tap water. Given some bottled water company's failure to adhere to the industry's own purity standards, Americans cannot take the quality of bottled water for granted. Indeed, test results like those presented in this study may give many Americans reason enough to reconsider their habit of purchasing bottled water and turn back to the tap.
